Love in Bloom: Stories from Our Valentine's Day Celebration

February 15, 2024
Amidst the gentle hum of laughter and the sweet aroma of treats, Lafayette Pointe recently hosted a spectacular Valentine's Day party. As the air buzzed with excitement, residents and staff came together to celebrate love, friendship, and cherished moments. This special event, carefully crafted to bring joy and warmth to all, became a beacon of happiness in the hearts of those gathered. Let's delve into the heartwarming tales and shared experiences that made this Valentine's Day celebration truly unforgettable.

During our Valentine King and Queen crowning, Justin Warne was so happy as he shared, "What an honor this is. I'm so happy to be here with my Lafayette family and to share this." Our Queen, Doris Parkhill, was also stunned as she shared, "I couldn't believe it! This was very unexpected and made me very happy. There are so many great women here who deserve this tiara too. I just love the staff and my friends I've made here."

Amongst other conversations in the room, we heard, "I felt like a person again. This party was so nice to have." Another resident shared their love for the snacks saying, "The strawberries and pineapple are so good. Whoever thought of dipping pineapple in chocolate? It's delightful!"

Although this holiday is a reminder of love and joy to most people, others do not feel this warmth. One of our beloved residents, Harry Harsh, always struggles with Valentine's Day because that's when he lost his fiancé years ago, and his daughter in separate accidents. "We were supposed to get married on Valentine's Day. I hadn't eaten a chocolate-covered strawberry in years because they reminded me of her. But Terri, Jenn, and Amanda put on such a good program and party, I couldn't help but eat a strawberry that Jenn made. They were delicious. This party really helped put my mind at ease and made me happy."

We're honored to have played a part in bringing Harry some comfort and joy on Valentine's Day. It's moments like these that remind us of the importance of creating a supportive and caring community for all our residents. We strive to make every holiday special at our nursing home, recognizing that each individual may have their own unique experiences and emotions tied to these occasions. Thank you, Harry, for sharing your story with us, and thank you to our dedicated team for their efforts in making our celebrations inclusive and meaningful for everyone.
